Our brains is made of billions of neurons. Programs are trying to make software that mimics the brain. Their are only hundreds of neurons in software. There are many redudancies in brains. When you age, your neurons decay.
Their is input layer, output layer and hidden layer. Neurons in this layer are created to provide indirect link between input and output. The link between these two does not have to be direct.
