Collaberation within a business creates knowledge. Mangers are finding collaberation as being an important aspect in allowing employees to use their knowledge where it can be best utilized.
Collaberation itself can be difficult to entertain. Most employees do not want to work with other employees unless it is necessary. There are four barriers to collaberation that will be discussed. When employees are unwilling to work with others, then this creates a problem or barrier. Having to overcome this barrier can be difficult unless you have recruited the right people. Most companies, before they hire anyone new, are only hiring employees who are willing to work in a team. They will also perform tasks individually but the unwillingness to work in a team creates a barrier to success.
The second barrier is the unwillingness to provide help to other employees. This is because the employee feels that they are already overloaded with work of their own and have no time to help others. To overcome this barrier, employees must realize that helping others can be beneficial in the future. This means that the employee unwilling to help now may need to be helped on a project at some future date.
The third barrier is the inability to find the right person to help you with the job. The person who you are looking for may be an expert in their field but you do not know who that person is. A solution is having an expertise chart that shows the skills and experience of each employee.
The fourth barrier is not wanting to work with coworkers who are strangers. This means that an employee may feel embarased to ask a complete stanger for help. A way to overcome is to build relationhips with emplyees and get to know them professionally and personally.
