Mulany says that while he worked for Boeing after the 9/11 terrorists attacks in 2001, he witnessed a huge decline in business because people were afraid to fly. He helped Boeing make it through the bad times and says he can do the same for Ford. While we give thanks let's not forget those who may not have a family or friends of with to enjoy the holiday's.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It is a holiday of togetherness without all of the stresses of Christmas. Thanksgiving is America's holiday that celebrates the giving and recieving of food and shelter between pigrims and indians. It has been a great day of support for our United States veterans. I hope US veterans see the support their country has for them and educate younger soldiers on becoming a veteran and great community member. In Nashville, Tennessee veterans from all across the state paraded out on downtown Nashville with American flags attached to their motorcycles. This picture in my mind describes the pride that those retired armed servicemen and women have for their country. Take a moment today to remember these veterans.

Graduating in December

I am graduating in December of 2008 with a degree in Computer Information Systems. Most people say that it goes by really fast but not me. Thinking about what you have to do tomorrow, working on what is due today, and not forgetting yesterday all seem to make time go by slow in the long run. In the short run, vacations, family, friends, and the television make time go by fast. Why can't leisure time go by slow and work go by fast? The answer is we spend much more time working than we do on these things. Think of it this way. Say you reverse the time you spend at work with the time you spend doing leisure activities. You may want to spend 40 hours a week out on the beach for 52 weeks out of the year. If you decided to get a job and work for one of those weeks, time will go by fast that week and slow the other 51. Throughout our educational pursuits we must sacrifice our leisure time. The question is how much leisure time are you willing to sacrifice? Ive spent 5 years working towards my Bachelor's Degree and will graduate soon. I may have wanted to spend these last 5 years at a resort but I would not have obtained a degree. So looking back, I'm excited I decided to get a degree and not to take a 5 year vacation. And looking into the future, history shows that it may still be time for us to let go of the travel brochures and pick up a pencil and piece of paper.

Sports update

Neural Network

Our brains is made of billions of neurons. You design technology to turn data into insight or knowledge and the data sits in a warehouse until it is ready to be thrown away according to regulation 3yrs, 5yrs, 10yrs. This chapter addresses that there is not enough analysis of the data that has been collected and stored in these databases to create the knowledge to make an organization more competitive. F
First of all, R=G. What is visibility to processes and data. Users, business partners, customers, suppliers can access warehouse data inventory. There is a free flow of information from throughout the entire value chain. So the manufacturers know so they do not over produce and when they design they will design the prodcut to meet the customers tastes. Visibilty is accurate, available, consistent, consistently updated, timely data. You should be able to know what is happening at any moment in the supply chain. This is the basis or prerequisite to business. You have to know what is going on. Visibility is the building block. If you know what is going on, you can configure resources, schedule supply chain, reduce capacity if economy is slow you know how much you need to reduce your reduction capacity, you won't have a lot of waste. Everything is based on facts and evidence. you can predict demand and you know how much resource you need in a factory. You have a good understanding of customer preference. You can predict demand. This improves the quality expected because you know the customers. You can find a niche that is not yet filled. You can reconfigure your resource to anticipate demand. Everything though is based on visibility to process data. you have a data already you have to figure out how to provide the right visibility. Alot of times the data is available but the users do not have easy access to it. You need user interface. There are internal and external users. Not everyone can access everything in the database. This is the challenge, to get the users to the data so they can analyze. This is complex and specific. Building blocks of R=G capabilities means that You can go outside your company to access important sources. N=1 means that depending on product, some are easier than others. Google is easy it lets individuals design their personalized website. There are lots of building blocks for people to put together insurance policy for their individual needs. The most fundamental building block starts with choice. You have to know individual and their skills. Some users are dr's some are lawyers. Some are good with computers. Value cocreation is input and output process. You can build your own to configure or produce your own computer at dell. Cocreation involves willingness, skills, time, community. Consumer behavior and expectation changes over time. In order to achieve n=1 you start with your knowledge. You have to know individual choice and knowledge.
You have to link realtionship with theory and study to apply the knowledge better and longer. You are smarter when you link pieces that are similiar.

You also need real time tracking capability then you have real time matching to match supply and demand. This order can best be fulfilled by this supplier. You know the demand side very good and have knowledge about the supply side then you can match them. You can match 1 million products with 1 million suppliers. Without matching you won't be able to expand your business very large. With visibility you can answer questions very quick. If customers are turning away from our services quickly. Your success is not an accident. You can explain and repeat success or you can explain your weakness or mistake or why you lost your competetive advantage. If success was an accident, and it was by luck then you will have trouble regaining your advantage. If you can explain it, and explain your mistakes by analyzing data then you will be able to regain copmeteivie advantage. You may be a victim or your past success because you go by what worked yesterday. The world has changed. There is a new kind of fundraising approach. Obama raised $150 million by fundraising on the web. Many people give $100-150 apiece. John Kerry raised about $20 million when he ran for presidency.

Sports Updates

Titans beat the Colts on Monday night. They integrate what they learn into what they already do. Stock is like a battery, it holds alot of energy and electricity and unless you create a flow of electricity, it is worthless. The stock of knowledge must flow and you have to figure out how to make it flow. Knowledge must be distributed to the right people. How does Nucor steel mobilize and utilize their resources to encourage knowledge use and knowledge sharing.

Expert Systems-
Look at wikipedia, Expert Systems. American express is an example of expert systems to produce business benefit. Other than this article, how can expert systems be used in the real world. An expert system is a problem solving system to present managers and senior expert knowledge so that a less experienced problem solver can make decisions, decision support tool. The entire organization benefits. Example is Partners Healthcare. Reduce number of unneccessary lab test, beds, negative drug effects that could affect patients. A human life is at stake. Expert systems should be available online. Expert systems is a god decision aid for the people who created the knowledge, the senior experts. This way the senior expert can spend his time on more important things while the junior expert works with the expert system that has the knowledge. Expert systems helps benefit users (people who need help, people who help people, senior expert can use expert system as an intelligent agent.), can organizations. Expert systems, if used too much can be bad. For example, the internet. The internet is used to communicate. Pornography on the internet is bad and is the number one selling business online. The expert systems can not capture all of the knowledge of the expert. The system relies on the knowledge based information it is able to get from the expert. All of the expert's knowledge can't be trsnslated into the expert system. Expert system is not as creative as human beings. Sometimes, two or more experts do not agree with each other and this makes this difficult for the expert system knowledge translation.

Web 2.0
Huge area. Read bloggin book, first 8 chapters. Read about ow microsoft changed its public image through blogging. Read how businesses use blogging as a cool advertising/marketing/communicating tool. Blog can be used by small companies to market their services to be used by individual consultants to publicize their expertise. They work because of the users participation and responsive comments. This is a very convenient way for the users to get involved in the content creation. Must be easy, convenient and affordable. This creates something called collective intelligence. Read Web 2.0 article, the Web as a Platform. O'reilly-Wikipedia is a good example of collective intelligence. So is google, the search engine craws through users contents to provide user with information. Look at www.innocentive.com it is in the book too. Functions as tool to match a company and their problem with the solution. If you are a professional and you have a good idea to solve one of the problems listed, if the idea is accepted, you get $5,000. It is called open innovation. This is another example of collective intelligence because it reaches out for knowledge from experts all over the world.
<img width='1' height='1' Bill Gates says blogging is easy way to communicate. Blogger humanizes the company to become better communicators with the customers and build relationships instead of just being a microsoft employee. Channel 9 is microsofts video blog-used to help customers and help identify problems on the job. Used the first wiki. Go to http://channel9.msdn.com/. Bloggin allows you to get to know people at work.

Dr. Jih's comments-Would we like to use bloggin at work? Yes. Several years ago Ryan was sitting in the back row. A manager from HCA came to talk to Dr. Jih's class. He hired Ryan before he graduated. He hired Ryan because he saw Ryan's webpage. He saw alot of cool things on Ryan's home page. This was the kind of attitude that HCA wanted. You have to know new things about new technologies. It takes a while to learn new stuff and Ryan already had this learned.

Sometimes a blog is alot of nothing like Facebook. It can be a good tool for individuals not just for companies. Bloggs can be used by suppliers, consumers, producers. If your blog has something good in it, you may get an email from a company in Germany wanting to talk to you. Dr. Jih got an email from an email from France who read a publication of Dr. Jih in mobile commerce. You have to start somewhere. The computer can be a pretty cool and good way to present your self. It takes time to think strategically and to invest a little time. It is okay to have a little fun. There is a lot of good and bad. We are smart enough to avoid the bad but there is alot of good. Look at the channel9 video blog. This is the best blog ever. Use blog as online journel. Put your webpage address or blog address on your resume. If what they see impresses them, you will get hired. They will click on your website and this is how you distinguish yourself. Employers want to know about you. You can go as deep as you want on this. One thing that beats this way, is a personal network. A personal network is limited though. They are not mutually exclusive.

Chapter 2: "Everything Never Changes"

"Ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread just like viruses do".

-Bloggin for recruits

blogging creates competition between teams. does not change nagging security issue. Whether these are organized in a organized manner determines if they will be found later.

Do not memorize on the test; you should have a framework or model to organize your thoughts.

Km 3500 Test on Monday Sept 22 2008

View Dr. Jih's website

Good knowledge sharing to support innovation.
